IGDA is a place where you can do some stuff for free but if you're looking to get an official membership it will cost you some money. Becoming a member can be done via multiple plans which we’ll cover later. First, let’s talk about how you can get involved in IGDA for free.
In 1995 women accounted for 37% of computer scientists, and in 2022 that number decreased to 22%. Girls Who Code aims to stop this decline and close the gender gap in new entry-level tech jobs by 2030.
There are people out there who might wish to get into gaming, but can’t due to disabilities and lack thereof accommodations out there for them to get into gaming. Able Gamers looks to change this and works to make sure people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else for positive experiences through play.
Founded in 2015, Black Girl Gamers has grown from a small Facebook group into a group of over 10,000+ black women around the globe! All with a shared passion for gaming and ambition to leave an impact on it.
Are you uncertain what you want to do in the field or just don’t know where to start learning? Well, I’d say just pick something that you find interesting and go for it, and if it’s not for you that’s okay, there are so many things to do in the game industry and tech in general. Almost everything will be challenging, especially when first learning, but that’s why you’ll build the skills you need.
This will be a documentation of my experience at GDC 2024 so that in the future i can look back at my experience here and use it as a point of reference for future events i may attend including future GDCs. I also hope this can help any others who may want to attend GDC to know what to expect when should they choose to attend GDC.
Amir Satvat has taken a lot of time out of his day to put together this workbook which can lead you to people who may be open to doing a wide variety of things to help you in this industry. Through Amir’s resources, I got in contact with two of my first mentors in the game industry who helped me really get out there and received multiple resume reviews.
